A tonic for the soul. It is a place where the past lingers softly, and every corner holds the promise of magic.

Our history
Dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, Château de Montflour was once the seat of a lordship in the Combraille region. The most significant later additions were made between 1880 and 1895 by Ludovic Souchard, a prominent lawyer from the nearby town of Montluçon.
In 2020, South Africans Christo Lindeque and his late wife Elbe acquired Château de Montflour, setting aside their retirement plans to undertake its restoration. Their vision was to return the château to active life, offering a place for considered stays and carefully hosted gatherings rooted in history and setting.
The château is partially registered as a historical monument, an official recognition of its cultural significance. While this status adds complexity to restoration work, it also underscores the importance of preserving its heritage — a task that has always relied as much on adaptation, perseverance, and a deep understanding of how things truly work as on grand design.
Maintained with patience, ingenuity, and an intimate knowledge of the building.
